An extraordinary research seminar was held at MCC on the 9th of May, featuring Michael Freeden, Professor Emeritus of the University of Oxford, Mansfield College. The theme of the seminar stemmed from Professor Freeden's monograph on political theory, named Concealed Silences and Inaudible Voices in Political Thinking, published last year.

During the event, Professor Freeden gave a lecture on how silence and silencing as universal phenomena affect political thinking and public life. As a comprehensive treatment of the topic, the lecture ranged from John Locke's theory of tacit consent to John Cage's music 4'33” and Samuel Beckett's plays. Following the lecture, students and researchers had the opportunity to raise questions to Professor Freeden. The reading seminar was organised by the MCC Center for  Constitutional Politics .
