Lénárd Sándor is the Head of the School of Law and of the Center for International Law at the Mathias Corvinus Collegium, he is an Associate Professor of Law and the Head of the Barna Horváth Hungary Law and Liberty Circle that operates independently but in cooperation with the Federalist Society. Lénárd is a graduate of Pázmány Péter Catholic University (Budapest, Hungary), where he received his J.D. (summa cum laude) in law and political sciences as well as of Canisius University (New York, U.S.A.) where he received his M.B.A. in international economics. During his university studies, he was awarded the Fellowship granted by the Hungarian Republic. Subsequently, he took the Hungarian bar exam and received his Ph.D. in law and political sciences in the field of public international law. His doctoral studies focused on economic globalization and explored the impacts of transnational and platform-based businesses on international human rights law. He was a visiting scholar at the Aarhus University (Denmark), at the Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto (Canada). He defended his Ph.D. thesis with summa cum laude from the Doctoral School of Law and Political Sciences of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University.
After graduating from law school, Lénárd served at the Office of the Attorney General and later on as a chief counsel at the Constitutional Court of Hungary in Budapest and as an advisor at the European Parliament in Brussels where his focus was on constitutional affairs of the European cooperation. In 2019, he was a visiting researcher at the Federal Judicial Center (Washington, D.C., U.S.A.), the research and education agency of the judicial branch of the U.S. government. He has previously taught various fields of public international law including the law of international economic relations at Pázmány Péter Catholic University. He has published numerous articles on contemporary international legal and constitutional questions in various academic, intellectual and popular journals and magazines. His work on international economic and human rights law has been published, among others, by Edward Elgar Publishing and Central European Journal of Comparative Law. He is the author of Constitutional Journey in the United States (MCC Press, 2022). He is fluent in English and French.
The primary research strategy of the Center for International Law includes international economic law along with the role of state regulation and pub-lic interests in economic globalization, the international legal protection of cultural heritage, the history, institutional setting, decision-making process of the European integration along with the debates on its future challenges.
