Heinrich Matthee is a Netherlands-based political analyst working with companies and NGOs. He serves as an extraordinary professor at the School of Government Studies, North-West University in South Africa, and is a non-resident researcher at the Emirates Policy Center in the UAE. Previously, he held senior research roles in African security at Stellenbosch University and worked as an editor at the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi. He has also been an analyst for the Middle East and North Africa at Control Risks in London and has taught at the University of Amsterdam and business schools. He holds a Master’s in International Studies from Birmingham University and a D.Phil. in political science from Marburg University, Germany. He is the author of Muslim Identities and Political Strategies (2008).
