Head of the MCC School of Media. "Kalnoky, you should become a journalist!" - "God forbid!" He had a brief exchange with one of his teachers in eighth grade that eventually inspired him to pursue journalism as his life’s work. Born in Germany in 1961 to a Szekler father and a Silesian mother, his family moved to a new country or city every few years. As a result, he spent his childhood in Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, and France, living in six different cities. He completed his schooling in Paris and went on to study political science in Hamburg, graduating in 1986. After graduation, he joined the editorial staff of the German newspaper Die Welt. When the political changes of 1989 occurred, his Hungarian roots drew him eastward, and he began writing about Central and Eastern Europe. In 1993, he left his growing career at Die Welt and moved to Budapest to work as a freelance journalist. Nine months later, he returned to Die Welt, now as a correspondent. In 2004, he became the publication’s correspondent for Turkey and the Middle East, based in Istanbul, where he worked until 2013. In 2015, he left Die Welt again to resume freelancing in Hungary. Although he continues to collaborate with Die Welt, he also writes for Austrian and Swiss publications. He is deeply passionate about writing and strives to share this passion with his students, believing it to be an integral part of his life.
